Behind the Scenes Support: Derrick’s Story

14 May 2026

While many volunteers work directly with clients, Derrick supports St George Community quietly behind the scenes.

Not all volunteers work directly with clients.

Each week, Derrick volunteers behind the scenes in the St George Community office, helping support important IT, records and compliance projects that keep the organisation running smoothly.

With a professional background spanning local, state and federal government, Derrick brings decades of knowledge and experience to the role.

Over the years he has worked in libraries, records management and government administration, including work connected to aged care compliance and archiving.

Today, he volunteers his time helping organise and manage important information systems and records within St George Community.

While much of the work happens quietly in the background, Derrick understands how important strong systems are in supporting staff, volunteers and clients across the organisation.

His contribution is another reminder that volunteering comes in many different forms.

Some volunteers are out driving buses or supporting clients on outings. Others, like Derrick, use their professional skills and experience behind the scenes to help strengthen the organisation’s day-to-day operations.

For Derrick, volunteering is an opportunity to continue contributing his skills in a meaningful way while supporting the local community.
