St George Community is your local provider of community transport and NDIS services in the St George area. For more than 40 years, we’ve been here for older people, people with disability, carers, and others who need a little extra support.
We help people live independently by understanding their needs — whether that means a safe ride to a medical appointment, support at home, or opportunities to get out and about in the community.
Our door-to-door transport service caters to people of all abilities. With a fleet of 27 vehicles — including sedans, SUVs, minibuses and larger accessible buses with wheelchair hoists — we make more than 75,000 trips every year for over 2,500 clients. These trips take people to:
But we’re more than just transport. Staying connected is vital as we age and as life changes. Our social outings program gives clients the chance to make friends and enjoy some of the best sights and experiences across Sydney and regional NSW.
As an NDIS registered provider, we have a team of more than 30 Support Workers who deliver professional, caring, one-on-one support to people with NDIS plans. Across the organisation, our 130-strong team — including our Governance Committee, 70 staff and more than 50 volunteers — are dedicated to making a difference every day.
Funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments, our purpose is simple: to keep people connected, independent and living life to the fullest.
St George Community has been supporting people in the St George area for more than 40 years.
In 1983, local community leaders recognised the need for reliable transport for people who were otherwise missing out on services and social connections. With the support of Kogarah Community Services, Hurstville Council and the Department of Transport, the first community bus — fondly known as George — hit the road. Volunteers soon joined in, offering their own cars to help neighbours get to appointments and stay connected.
From those humble beginnings, the service grew steadily, backed by local councils, Rotary, community groups and countless volunteers. As the needs of an ageing and diverse community became clearer, we added more vehicles, introduced accessible buses, and expanded to offer both individual transport and social outings.
Thanks to the dedication of our staff, volunteers and supporters, St George Community has grown into one of NSW’s leading community transport providers. Today, we remain true to our purpose: helping people of all ages and abilities stay independent, reduce isolation, and remain connected to their community.
Facilitate a good quality of life, strong connections and independence for our clients.
We pursue our vision through five key mission points:
By providing trusted and reliable services across multiple aspects of daily life, our team is dedicated to enabling clients in maintaining their independence both within their personal lives and within the community.
The information and services we provide are tailored to each individual client and drive targeted assistance that helps ensure a good quality of life. We also provide resources for clients, friends, family, and the community which are designed to support our initiatives.
Independence and quality of life are underpinned by being able to access support services that meet each individual’s needs. We strive each day to ensure that their needs are met and assist whenever possible.
By providing opportunities, information, and a suite of services, we aim to reduce isolation, and help people in our community to exercise their choice and control.
Care, compassion and experience are required to be a provider of choice within the community services sector, and our team embodies these traits.
We commit to prioritising the safety of our clients when travelling or while they are receiving services at home and in the community. All staff undergo appropriate training, and we are constantly assessing our procedures to see where there are opportunities for improvements.
We foster a collaborative environment that respects and encourages the contributions of staff, volunteers, and clients. All contributions are valued equally, and we work hard to achieve the best outcome for all involved.
We are governed by our Board, which leads our compliance with the legislation and standards under which we operate. The risks faced by our business and our financial stability are overseen by our Board.
We know that we can achieve more when we work together. We embrace diversity, encourage open communication, and share decision-making.
We strive to continuously improve our service offering and provide our community with the resources they need to make positive choices in their lives.
We encourage excellence in our team members and reward those who display the ability to go above and beyond.
Our organisation is governed by a group of volunteer Board members who are responsible to ensure the organisation remains financially viable and that the risks are managed to deliver safe and reliable services to our clients. We are currently recruiting for new board members who reflect our values and bring relevant expertise. For further information please contact Natasha Stokes, CEO St George Community.
Our Board and the Finance Audit and Risk Sub-Committee meet bi-monthly.
Chair
As an experienced community engagement specialist and business strategist, I have dedicated more than 15 years to the not-for-profit sector, with a focus on aged care, disability and mental health.
