Danny has been driving with St George Community for just over three years, bringing with him more than a decade of experience as a professional coach driver. Calm, attentive and highly safety-focused, Danny supports clients across Individual Transport and social outings, helping each person feel comfortable, respected and at ease.
Before joining St George Community, Danny spent many years working in the tourism industry, driving coaches for visitors from Australia and overseas. His role involved long days on the road, tight schedules and keeping passengers engaged throughout their journey.
While the driving skills transferred easily, Danny says community transport requires a very different mindset. The focus shifts from destinations and timetables to people – their comfort, their safety, and how they’re feeling from moment to moment.
Individual Transport requires constant attentiveness. Danny carefully watches how clients are feeling, whether they’re comfortable in their seat, need assistance, or might be anxious about an upcoming appointment. He understands that many clients are managing pain, fatigue or health concerns, and that a calm, steady journey can make a real difference.
“You can’t switch off,” Danny says. “You’re always watching, listening and adjusting.”
“This job is about paying attention all the time.”
Danny’s ability to speak Mandarin and Cantonese is a particular comfort for many clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Sometimes clients don’t realise Danny speaks their language until later in the journey – a moment that often leads to surprise, laughter and a stronger sense of connection.
Being able to communicate in a client’s first language helps build trust quickly, especially for those who may feel nervous or isolated. Danny is equally mindful of clients who prefer quiet, understanding that conversation can be comforting, but silence can be too.
“A smooth, safe journey helps people feel at ease – and that’s what matters most.”
For Danny, each trip is an opportunity to support someone’s independence and wellbeing. Whether he’s driving a client to a medical appointment, a familiar weekly outing or a social activity, he approaches every journey with patience, care and respect.
It’s this quiet attentiveness – often unseen – that helps clients feel confident to keep getting out, staying connected and maintaining their routines.
