Since joining us in March 2021, Anita Brown has become a true beacon of kindness and joy at St George Community. Her dedication to managing transport and social outing enquiries is only matched by the warmth and humour she brings to every conversation – even the tough ones.
Anita’s story is one of resilience and loyalty. Despite losing her husband in 2023 and moving temporarily to Blacktown to be closer to friends, she remained committed to the community she loves. Her return to the office was marked with energy and laughter, and she wasted no time reigniting her role as the heart of our team.
Beyond her volunteer work, Anita is known for creating moments of joy in the office. She’s the organiser of bake-offs, mahjong games, and the much-loved “corner shop” – her desk drawer filled with snacks to keep the team going during those 3pm slumps. Her generosity and spirit are so valued that we even named one of our buses after her, affectionately calling it “Brownie.”
Her colleagues describe her as a “spreader of joy” – someone whose humour and kindness brighten even the most challenging days.
Reflecting on her experience, Anita shared: “Being a volunteer has given me a sense of purpose and joy that I never expected. The connections I’ve made with clients and colleagues are incredibly meaningful, and I love knowing that I can brighten someone’s day just by being there to listen and help.”
We are incredibly grateful to Anita and all our volunteers for the time, care, and dedication they bring to St George Community. Their commitment helps keep our community connected and thriving.
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, now is the perfect time to get involved. You might just change someone’s life – including your own.
