Every Journey Matters – Meet Veronica

5 February 2026

Veronica has been part of St George Community’s Individual Transport team for four years, bringing warmth, patience and a strong focus on connection to every journey. With a calm and friendly approach, she supports clients to attend appointments, run errands and maintain routines that are important to their independence.

A path to community transport

Before joining St George Community, Veronica worked in a similar support role at Uniting. Encouraged by a friend already working within the organisation, she made the move and quickly found her place within the Individual Transport team.

For Veronica, the role felt like a natural fit — one where she could combine practical support with genuine care and human connection.

What the role really involves

Veronica’s days often include medical appointments, shopping trips and helping clients get to places that matter to them. She understands that what may appear to be a simple trip is often a client’s main opportunity to get out, connect with others and feel part of the community.

Like all Individual Transport drivers, Veronica provides hands-on support when needed — offering a steady arm, assisting clients in and out of vehicles, and giving people the time and reassurance they need to feel comfortable and safe.

“Some people are very lonely — just talking can make a big difference.”

Connection through language and care

Originally from Chile, Veronica has lived in Sydney for more than 40 years and speaks fluent Spanish. Being able to communicate in a client’s first language often brings immediate comfort and familiarity, especially for those who may feel anxious or unsure.

Veronica is mindful of creating an inclusive environment for everyone travelling. She adapts how she communicates depending on who is on board, ensuring all clients feel respected, at ease and included.

“It’s not just driving — it’s helping people feel comfortable, supported and seen.”

Every journey matters

For Veronica, Individual Transport is about more than getting from one place to another. It’s about helping people feel confident to keep going out, maintain their independence and stay connected to the world around them.

Through conversation, patience and quiet support, Veronica helps ensure each journey is a positive part of her clients’ day.
