Evan is one of the friendly, experienced drivers behind St George Community’s Individual Transport service, helping clients feel safe, comfortable and respected on every journey. With a calm approach and a strong focus on safety, Evan supports clients with a wide range of needs, from medical appointments to regular community outings.
Evan joined St George Community six years ago following a major change in his working life. Previously employed as a communications technician with Telstra, Evan’s career took an unexpected turn after a serious workplace accident. Community transport offered a new direction – one focused on helping people in practical, meaningful ways.
For Evan, Individual Transport is about much more than driving. Each day involves understanding individual homes, steep driveways, wheelchair access points, mobility needs and medical considerations – all while maintaining a smooth, defensive driving style that keeps clients comfortable.
Drivers also need to read the room. Some clients enjoy conversation, while others prefer a quiet trip. Knowing the difference is part of providing respectful, personalised support.
“The driving matters – but how you treat people matters just as much.”
Evan values the trust clients place in him and the opportunity to help people maintain independence and routine. He says a calm, safe journey can make a real difference to how someone feels arriving at an appointment – and how they feel heading home again.
“When people feel safe and comfortable in the vehicle, everything else flows from there.”
For many clients, Individual Transport is about far more than getting from A to B. It’s about dignity, reassurance and knowing someone is looking out for you along the way. Evan’s steady approach helps ensure each journey is handled with care and respect.
